Are you a budding
writer looking for advice?
Did you happen to read my bio? Then you should know better than to look
to me for advice about anything! However, it so happens that I DO have
some great advice to give you, and this is it. Go directly to these
websites where you’ll actually get some
really good writing advice:
Jan Burke – Her
mysteries are some of my favorites and her advice is worth reading.
Barry Eisler
– Do not miss his “10 Points on Craft” among his other great advice.
Amy J. Fetzer
– She knows what she’s talking about when it comes to writing military
heroes. Check out her features page for advice and links.
Charlotte Dillon
– Tons of links covering every possible aspect of writing.
eHarlequin.com
– Their Learn to Write section is filled with helpful articles and classes,
plus they’ve got message boards on all aspects of writing and reading.
Publishers
Marketplace – They charge a monthly fee, but this is an invaluable
aid for studying the market. Check out the ‘Deals’ page to see who’s selling
what to whom. Plus, lots of agents have their info listed here and there are
plenty of industry blogs to check out.
AgentQuery.com
– Excellent resource for finding the right agent who represents what
you’re writing.
UrbanDictionary.com – This is one of the best slang
dictionaries out there. You can look up a word or check out the
newest definitions of words and phrases. Warning - this site is not
appropriate for all audiences.
And check out these writers’ organizations:
RWA – Besides
romance, this organization is simply the best in terms of learning the
overall business of writing and publishing.
Orange County Chapter of RWA
– My local chapter has a great website and a blog.
Sisters in Crime
– For both writers and readers.
Blogs I visit regularly – mostly about writing:
